Apple’s controversial AirPods are finally available for purchase on their website after the initial keynote and announcement in October of this year. Now, they are back-ordered for four weeks, so potential Christmas gifts are out of the question unless you were able to score one during the early hours of December 13th.

Along with the AirPods, Apple announced the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from the latest iPhone, causing some uproar amongst many. Not only does this removal hinder wired headphone users, this eliminates some other accessories that use the headphone jack too (think selfie sticks, auxiliary jacks to play music in your car, etc), Apple’s plan all along. This isn’t a new tactic for them- by eliminating what some consider key features of a phone, like a headphone jack- paves the way for innovation in other ways.

The AirPods boast easy setup, long battery life, neat tangle-free design, and smart sensors to stop playing when you take them out of your ears. Yours for a cool $159. There has been a similar response to the AirPods with the initial launch of the Apple Watch. Both are great accessories, there’s no doubt about that, but the price points are going to turn away many. Apple will try and change that, by creating a product that people can’t live without, but sometimes it just doesn’t stick. And, not to mention, spending $159 on something so tiny you may accidentally send them through the washing machine.
