Each week, TicketForce brings you the latest news on one of four industries: sports, racing, music and theatre. This week’s #sportswrap features the start of NFL training camps.
Excitement is in the air as NFL teams return to training camp to prepare for the 2013-2014 season. During training camp, teams will begin choosing players for their 53-man rosters to carry them through the season in hopes of winning the Super Bowl.
Last year’s Super Bowl champions, the Baltimore Ravens, began training camp on July 25. Although they had a great year last season, their roster has changed drastically since then. Several talented players who helped the Ravens win the Super Bowl, such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Anquan Boldin, are no longer with the team this year.
There is good news for the Ravens though – Joe Flacco, the Raven’s quarterback, signed a six-year, $120.6 million deal with the Ravens last March. At the time, it was the most expensive contract in the NFL.
"I’m sure in a couple of months from now, someone is going to sign a deal, and you guys are going to be talking to them about how they are the highest-paid guy in NFL history," Flacco said after signing his contract.
Flacco called it. Since signing his contract on March 4, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan both received higher paying deals. As the third-highest paid quarterback in the league, Flacco will still have a lot of expectations to live up to.
