A little more than a month removed from the Super Bowl, the NFL has entered into its offseason. What used to be a relatively quiet time for the league has turned into a spectacle that rivals the actual season.
The NFL combine has come and gone. With record viewership, millions of fans tuned in to see college prospects run through a gamut of drills judging their physical attributes and skills. Sportswriters and fans alike speculated on which player will be joining which teams.
We have now reached the point of cuts, pro days and signings. Many teams have begun to cut players to make salary cap room to bring in new additions and draft picks. These cut players can in turn sign with a new team.
We’ve also seen a couple of landmark trades, including former Eagles running back Lesean McCoy being traded to the Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso. It’s a time when every team’s fans become excited about their prospects for the upcoming season and expectations are never higher. Teams will also visit colleges for pro days, in which drat picks run through drills in an attempt to increase their draft position.
In the next few months we will see some big name free agents such as Jeremy Maclin, Randall Cobb and potentially Darelle Revis sign with new teams, or choose to return to their current times. The most anticipated moment of the offseason is the NFL Draft. The Draft begins Thursday, April 30 in Chicago. It goes through Saturday in what has become a television extravaganza.
