Every week, TicketForce brings you news on one of four industries: racing, sports, theatre, or music. This week’s #TheatreWrap celebrates the return of Kristin Chenoweth to Broadway for her role in On the Twentieth Century.
Kristin Chenoweth began her journey to stardom as a musical theater major at Oklahoma City University, and also moved on to receive a masters degree in opera performance. Chenoweth has since won both Emmy awards and Tony awards for her performances in Steel Pier, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Wicked, for which she created the coveted role of “Glinda.” Kristin Chenoweth has also been seen on television with roles in Pushing Daisies, The West Wing, and Glee, along with many movie appearances.
Known for her small frame and unique falsetto voice, Chenoweth will star opposite Peter Gallagher in the 1978 original On the Twentieth Century, a musical comedy about antics aboard a luxury train trip from Chicago to New York City (The New York Times). She will play Hollywood leading lady Lily Garland, and Peter Gallagher will star as a theater producer in financial trouble by the name of Oscar Jaffee, who also happens to be Lily Garland’s former love interest.
The production is set to open February 12th at American Airlines Theater. Scott Ellis, with Warren Carlyle as the choreographer, will direct the revival.
